Course Description:
As citizens of the same planet, it is more important than ever that we all understand our rights as well as our responsibilities. Upon completion of this elective, students will have a deeper understanding of key concepts such as diversity and privilege. While working through a series of inspiring tasks designed to develop and enhance all aspects of their English skills, students will also learn how each person truly can make a difference.
Format:
The course is designed to be delivered in a communicative, student-centered manner where the instructor acts as facilitator while students take on responsibility for their own learning.
Course Goals/Outcomes:
- Students will acquire increased proficiency in each of the four core areas (speaking, listening, reading and writing) of English.
- Students will expand their vocabulary as they work through each of the tasks and activities.
- Students will develop critical thinking skills as they analyze information and express opinions.
- Students will acquire increased confidence through a variety of authentic learning experiences.

All required materials will be provided.
Evaluation:
Assessment for this elective will be based on the quality and quantity of blog posts and comments, selected in-class assignments, and attendance.
Attendance: Attendance is required and will contribute to 10% of the final grade.
